Bill Marshall (now deceased) was a successful exploration geologist from Midland, Texas. He began his career working for his father, Sam Marshall, and his father’s partner, Don Winston, who ran a lucrative royalty company. When Bill took over the business, he changed direction and turned it into an independent oil company with exploration and development operations in the Rockies and in West Texas. Bill’s efforts led to the discovery of the Concho Bluff Queen Field, the Lonesome Dove Field, numerous Austin Chalk wells, and the Blackard-Clinta Field in Texas, as well as the Portal Field and several wells in the Red Wing Creek Field in North Dakota. At the time this interview was recorded, the company was participating in Bakken horizontal wells in the Williston Basin, North Dakota.
