Lawrence Funkhouser

Early in his highly successful career with Chevron, Larry Funkhouser was a talented young exploration geologist assigned to the offshore Gulf Coast and the Permian Basin, while being groomed for an influential management role. Larry was soon named Chevron’s Vice President of Exploration, a position he held for more than seventeen years. During his tenure, Chevron found many billion barrels of oil and several tens of trillion cubic feet of gas in the North Sea; Indonesia; offshore NW Australia; Newfoundland, Canada; South Louisiana; Utah-Wyoming; Mediterranean Sea; Sudan; Chad; Alberta, Canada; offshore California and offshore Angola, West Africa. Larry served the AAPG as President and chaired the AAPG Foundation for ten years. He was honored by the AAPG with the Sidney Powers Memorial Award and by the AAPG Foundation with the Chairman’s Award.
