Don Todd and his partners found more than 3BBO in Indonesia. As an underfunded Rocky Mountain geologist in the mid-1960s, Don dropped his promising US career and went to Indonesia to explore for oil and gas. Don recognized several sub-basins in the Java Sea with source rocks, reservoirs and structures. He selected two tracts and single-handedly negotiated the world's first production-sharing contract. Those two tracts produced more than 2.5BBO. After selling his position in the Northwest Java Sea, Don subsequently participated in Trend Exploration's Miocene reef play on the island of Irian Jaya, finding another 500MMBO. In 1985, as part of Indonesia's celebration of "100 Years of Indonesian Oil," Don was one of several explorationists awarded a solid gold medal for his significant contributions to the development of the petroleum industry in that country.
