As a graduate student, Knut Bjorlykke was one of the first Norwegians to specialize in sedimentary geology. After several research and lecture assignments, Dr. Bjorlykke became Professor of Petroleum Geology at the University of Bergen (1976-1984), then Professor of Sedimentology and Petroleum Geology at the University of Oslo (1984-2008), where he is a Professor Emeritus. Knut’s academic and research interests have been concentrated on the relationship of sediments, fluid flow, compaction, diagenesis, and stresses in reservoir rocks in sedimentary basins. He wrote the popular book titled Petroleum Geoscience – from Sedimentary Environments to Rock Physics. AAPG recognized Knut’s accomplishments with the Grover E. Murray Memorial Distinguished Educator Award.
