Jim Henry, successful petroleum engineer and explorer, and founder of Henry Petroleum, spent almost fifty years of his career in Midland, Texas, drilling and developing Permian Spraberry tight sandstone oil wells. In 2003, Henry Petroleum began developing the Wolfberry Trend, drilling vertical wells in the Wolfcamp and Spraberry zones and completing them with the large hydraulic fracture treatments pioneered by George Mitchell and used in the Barnett Shale around Fort Worth, Texas. This approach ushered in the development of a new unconventional play in the greater Permian Basin. In the following years, Henry Petroleum drilled many wells and leased more than 300,000 acres in that play. In 2008, Jim sold his company to Concho Resources, and began a new venture, Henry Resources.
